A State Senator from Tahlequah is filing the first ever Supreme Court challenge against the new Senate redistricting plan passed earlier this year.
State Senator Jim Wilson says Oklahomans should be angry about the large number of gerrymandered districts which are unconstitutional.
The Tahlequah Democrat says even though he’s term-limited and it won’t affect him he still represents the people of his district.
“This is not fair to the people, and I have bipartisan support for my effort in my district. It doesn’t matter whether you’re Republican or Democrat they think it’s a bad deal and I think that’s my job as long I’m still a member of the legislature is try to do something about it.”
The new district map was passed by a vote of 38 to six even though several Democrats opposed the new districts which were drawn with the help of a Republican consultant.
The suit was filed in the State Supreme Court on Thursday and names the Governor, House Speaker, Senate President Pro Tem and Election Board Secretary as defendants.
