In honor of Colon Cancer Awareness Month, the Oklahoma Alliance of Health Plans is educating members about the need for colon cancer screenings.
The O.A.H.P. wants all Oklahomans to know colon cancer screening needs to be a priority, and the procedure is covered by individual or group plans.
Senator Johnnie Crutchfield of Ardmore delayed getting the procedure only to later find he had a malignant polyp.
“You know I come from part of southern Oklahoma, and we’re proud to be rednecks at times, you hear that deal. But, the bottom line is you’re talking about your life, and it’s awful young to be at the stage where you can’t do anything about it.”
The O.A.H.P. says every year 750 Oklahomans die from colon cancer and that number could be cut 50 to 70% through regular screenings.
The Alliance consists of Aetna, Blue-Cross-Blue Shield, Community Care, Coventry Health, Global Health, Pacific Care and United Health Care.
