A House sub-Committee on Education unanimously passes legislation to create a pilot program for teacher performance pay.
House Bill 2836 would direct the State Department of Education to create a grant award for a teacher performance pay pilot program and adopt guidelines for districts to follow in developing the program.
Representative Earl Sears says districts would use administrators, teachers, parents and community members to develop the criteria.
“It needs to be developed at the local level, and that’s what I’m very pleased about the bill. It is locally developed, locally driven. The only thing we’re going to do at the state level is if the funding is there to fund it.”
The Bartlesville Republican says the pilot program would run for three years and have a fiscal impact between $178,000 and $3 million.
The bill now heads to the full House Committee on Appropriations for consideration.
