Hoping to Make OK Roads Safer During Storms

Oklahoma Senators are considering legislation which would require drivers to have their headlights on when their windshield wipers are activated.

The Senate Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee approved SB 1831 last week.

Senator Joe Sweeden says he hopes this legislation will encourage safer driving.

“There aren’t any penalties at this time, but hopefully it will just bring awareness, and hopefully we can do that to just reduce the number of people killed in car wrecks.”

The Pawhuska Democrat says similar legislation exists in 12 other states including southern states that experience frequent rain storms like Oklahoma.

The bill now heads to the full Senate for consideration.
