LUTHER, Okla. (AP) - A Luther police officer is in the custody of U.S. marshals after prosecutors say he lied on federal documents.

Jerry Pendley had worked for the Luther Police Department for about three weeks before his arrest by Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers on Monday. The U.S. Attorney’s office says Pendley lied on the documents by not noting he had been arrested and charged twice on suspicion of assault and battery.

Investigators say Pendley previously had been fired from police jobs in McLoud and Cyril.

Luther Police Chief C.O. Moore says Pendley didn’t mention on his employment application that he had worked in Cyril. Moore says Pendley found someone in McLoud to write a positive recommendation for him despite Pendley being fired.

It isn’t known if Pendley has yet hired an attorney.
