TULSA, Okla. (AP) – The effort to breed an Oklahoma City Zoo elephant with a male at the Tulsa Zoo is an apparent success.
Zoo officials say the elephant Asha conceived in July after the first breeding attempt with the male Sneezy and is expected to give birth in May 2011. Her sister Chandra also mated with Sneezy but that attempt was not successful.
If the pregnancy goes normally the two female elephants will return to the Oklahoma City Zoo next year. The birth would be the first elephant born at the Oklahoma City Zoo.
