Grand jury indicts 8

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – A federal grand jury has indicted eight Mexican nationals who are accused of plotting to traffic drugs in northeast Oklahoma.

The indictment charged Ruben Garcia and seven others with participating in a conspiracy to bring cocaine and methamphetamine into the Tulsa area. The government also is seeking a monetary judgment for proceeds derived from the alleged crime.

U.S. Attorney’s office spokesman Randal Edgmon said Wednesday the eight are due back in court within the next one to two weeks.

The eight were among 300 alleged “La Familia” drug cartel members who were arrested as part the largest single strike at Mexican drug operations in the United States.

Attorney Randy Lynn, who is representing Juan Martinez, hadn’t seen the indictment but says he’s not surprised his client was charged.
