Lawmakers on the state judiciary committee are looking in to the possibility of legislation next session, which would make pseudoephedrine available only through a doctor’s prescription.
The Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs is wanting the law changed so sales of the level two drug can be tracked through the prescription monitoring program.
However, the Consumer Health Care Products Association disagrees with the idea of making it available only through prescription.
State Government Relations Director Mandy Hagan says prescription monitoring wouldn’t avoid out-of-state sales of the product. She says the CHCP would be willing to buy the state a tracking system to help monitor the sales of pseudoephedrine.
