Federal auditors take look at anti-crime program

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A crime prevention program in Oklahoma City that’s been under investigation by police is now being looked at by federal auditors.

Police Chief Bill Citty says the city’s investigation of the Weed and Seed program is on hold while auditors from the U.S. Office of Inspector General examine it.

The city began investigating the program after it was placed under the supervision of police and questions arose about how money was spent and two employees were placed on leave. Officials have not said how the money was spent but Citty does say the paperwork detailing expenditures is sometimes messy.

Weed and Seed is a federal program that provides money to cities to pay for increased enforcement in high crime areas.
