Committee to study shake-and-bake meth labs

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – State lawmakers plan a public hearing to discuss ways to curb the growing number of shake-and-bake methamphetamine labs in Oklahoma.
The House Judiciary Committee will convene a study Thursday into the small-scale meth labs that have created problems across the state in recent months, especially in Tulsa County.
Area lawmakers say dozens of fires and at least four deaths have occurred since Jan. 1 due to clandestine meth labs in apartments, cars and motel rooms.
The study will examine whether law enforcement agencies and pharmaceutical companies have possible solutions to stem the rise in the new method of making meth.
The method involves a two-liter soda bottle, a few handfuls of cold pills and some noxious chemicals that are shaken to produce a chemical reaction that produces the addictive drug.
